Description:Horizon by Sun Ra, released 16 January 2009. This version of Horizon comes as a 1xCD. -
2009 reissue containing bonus tracks. Horizon (also known as Starwatchers and Sun Ra in Egypt Vol.2) contains a big chunk of the now legendary Balloon Theatre concert (it burned down soon after their visit, as did the hotel in which the Arkestra stayed while they were in Cairo). The Balloon extract is an uncut block and features a lot of Sun Ra's all-hell-let-loose Moog soloing, as well as a great version of 'Discipline 2'. The rest of Horizon is from the Heliopolis concert, kicking off with an instrumental version of 'Enlightment' and 'Love in Outer Space', segueing slowly into 'Space Is the Place' followed by drum orchestra, more Ra soloing on Moog, Tiger Organ and detuned piano leading to a first lurching, then wild, 'Discipline 8'. Two bonus tracks, for the first time restored from the original concert, follow: 'We'll Wait for You' (with June Tyson) and 'The Satellites Are Spinning', which ends in full-on percussion. Wow! Artyard.
Recorded at The Ballon Theatre, Cairo, Egypt 12/17/1971. This concert was sponsored by the Egyption Ministry of Culture. Tracks 1 to 3 and 6 to 9 originally released on the Saturn record label. Philadelphia serial number 121771. LP 849 (matrix 12-17-71). All other recordings on this disc are previously unreleased. Six-panel digipak. "Made in USA" is printed on the CD disk. The Arkestra are designated on the front cover as "Sun Ra And His Solar Arkestra" in large type, and as "Sun Ra And His Intergalactic Myth Science Solar Arkestra" in small type, a credit which is also printed on the back panel. Spine simply credits "Sun Ra".
