Daniil Trifonov presents his solo recording, 'Bach: The Art of Life'. Centered around Johann Sebastian Bach's late masterpiece 'The Art of Fugue', the new double album reflects Trifonov's insight into the family life and music-making of one of the greatest composers of all time. In recognition of Anna Magdalena's unmistakable imprint on Johann Sebastian's life and legacy, Trifonov includes extracts from her Notebook. 'Interestingly,' observes Trifonov, 'the aria Bist du bei mir (No. 25 in the Notebook) was composed by Gottfried Heinrich Stolzel. Johann Sebastian and Anna Magdalena's first son was named Gottfried Heinrich. It is possible to speculate that this piece was their love song, making it's inclusion in the Notebook (and the heart of this album) particularly poignant.
This release is a compilation of two previous releases by Trifonov: Departure (Piano Concertos 2 & 4) and Arrival (Piano Concertos 1 & 3) across CDs 1 and 2. CD 3 contains Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini and a long transcription of Vocalise. A Pure Audio Blu-Ray disc contains Piano Concertos 1 ? 4; The Silver Sleigh Bells; Vocalise short transcription; and Suite from J.S. Bach's Partita for Violin in E Major. Additionally, this is a Deutsche Grammophon store exclusive, and a limited number of CDs include a signed card. https://store.deutschegrammophon.com/p51-i0028948645923/daniil-trifonov-yannick-nezet-seguin-philadelphia-orchestra/destination-rachmaninov-the-piano-concertos-paganini-rhapsody-transcriptions/index.html
"Destination Rachmaninov" (CD + Blu-ray) by pianist Daniil Trifonov, conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin and the Philadelphia Orchestra (PDO) on Deutsche Grammophon presents a profoundly immersive journey into the emotional and pianistic universe of Sergei Rachmaninov. The CD offers high-fidelity studio recordings, while the Blu-ray adds a visual and often high-resolution audio dimension that lets listeners experience the interplay between soloist, conductor and orchestra in even greater detail. This release focuses on the romantic intensity, sweeping lyricism and virtuosic brilliance that define Rachmaninov's piano repertoire, highlighting both its grand symphonic architecture and its intimate, introspective moments. The combination of audio CD and Blu-ray makes the edition attractive for both pure audio connoisseurs and those who value the concert experience on screen.

Daniil Trifonov is widely regarded as one of the leading pianists of his generation, celebrated for his extraordinary technique, poetic sensitivity and probing musical intellect. He has garnered major international prizes early in his career and has since appeared with the world's foremost orchestras and conductors. His interpretations of the Romantic and early modern repertoire, and particularly of Rachmaninov, are often praised for their balance of structural clarity and emotional depth, making him an ideal interpreter for this project. Yannick Nézet-Séguin, one of today's most sought-after conductors, has built a reputation for vibrant, transparent orchestral sound and interpretative insight across opera and symphonic music, and his close artistic partnership with the Philadelphia Orchestra brings a distinctive sonic identity to this recording.

The Philadelphia Orchestra, historically renowned for its lush "Philadelphia Sound" and its tradition in late-Romantic and early 20th-century repertoire, provides a rich and flexible orchestral foundation that perfectly matches Rachmaninov's sound world. Their collaboration with Trifonov and Nézet-Séguin on this recording underscores the music's sweeping orchestral colors, dramatic climaxes and subtle shading, making this release a compelling reference for Rachmaninov lovers and newcomers alike.
