.. Music From The Former Library Of Dr Werner Wolffheim |
 | | Description: | The "Handschrift aus der 2. Hälfte des 17. Jahrhunderts, eine Art Album" (Manuscript from the second half of the 17th Century) presented on this recording for the first time offers an exquisite collection of music for the 11-course baroque lute - excellently interpreted by the lutenist Bernhard Hofstötter. - .. MUSIC FROM THE FORMER LIBRARY OF DR WERNER WOLFFHEIM?In 1928/29, Dr. Werner Wolffheim put his legendary music collection up for auction in Berlin. Among it's countless treasures are original editions of J.S. Bach's "The Art of the Fugue" and "Musical Offering" as well as an "Album for the Lute", an exquisite collection of music for the 11-course baroque lute. This manuscript, now kept in Melbourne, contains almost exclusively unique pieces, which were recorded here for the first time. But even the best music library remains silent until it is made to sound. The "Handschrift aus der 2. Hälfte des 17. Jahrhunderts, eine Art Album" (Manuscript from the second half of the 17th Century, a kind of album) presented on this recording for the first time offers an exquisite collection of music for the 11-course baroque lute - excellently interpreted by the lutenist Bernhard Hofstötter."Album für die Laute-Musik aus der ehem. Biblioth" is a CD that invites listeners into the refined and intimate sound world of the lute. Performed by lutenist Bernhard Hofstötter, the album focuses on carefully selected repertoire that reflects the rich musical traditions preserved in an old historic library collection. The recording highlights the nuanced sonorities of the lute, from meditative, introspective pieces to more ornate and virtuoso works, all captured with great sensitivity and stylistic awareness. The programme is curated to lead the listener through different moods and musical characters, creating a coherent and contemplative listening experience that is perfectly suited for focused listening as well as for quiet, atmospheric moments. Bernhard Hofstötter is known for his dedicated work with early plucked-string instruments, with a particular emphasis on historically informed performance practice. His playing is characterised by clarity of articulation, expressive phrasing and a subtle sense of rhythm and timing, allowing the often delicate textures of lute music to unfold with unusual presence and intensity. Over the years, he has built a reputation in the early music community through concert appearances and recordings that focus on rediscovering and presenting lesser-known repertoire, bringing forgotten music back to life with respect and imagination. His interpretations are appreciated for their musical intelligence and for the way they balance scholarly insight with poetic expression. The label TYXart is a specialist classical music manufacturer that places great value on artistic integrity, high-quality sound and thoughtfully conceived programmes. TYXart releases are known for their careful production standards, including detailed booklet texts and recordings that give instruments like the lute the space and clarity they need to shine. By working closely with dedicated artists and ensembles, TYXart supports projects that are often off the mainstream yet artistically compelling, helping to broaden the recorded landscape of classical and early music. This production continues that philosophy, offering a finely crafted presentation of an intimate repertoire that might otherwise remain hidden in library archives. With its combination of refined playing, historically anchored repertoire and audiophile production, this CD is particularly recommended for lovers of early music, for listeners curious about the lute as a solo instrument, and for anyone who appreciates quiet, introspective recordings that reveal more detail with every repeated listen. The album's concept--drawing on materials from a former library collection--adds a special aura of discovery and authenticity, making this disc not only a musical pleasure but also a journey into the cultural memory preserved in old manuscripts and prints. | | | Manufacturer No.: |
