Description:Sudan Archivesâ?? second album â??Natural Brown Prom Queenâ? is an epic R&B / hip-hop / dance / world music record that is also very personal, taking in race, womanhood and the fiercely loyal, loving relationships at the heart of Sudan's life with her family, friends and partner. When Sudan burst onto the scene in 2017 with the track "Come Meh Way," she was a vocalist, violinist (with a West African fiddling style) and loop maker producing beats in her bedroom. While her debut album â??Athenaâ? (2019) drew inspiration from divine Black feminine power, on â??Natural Brown Prom Queenâ? Sudan is in character as Britt (Brittney Parks), the girl next door from Cincinnati who drives around the city with the top down and shows up to high-school prom in a pink furry bikini with her thong hanging out her denim skirt. From first listen, itâ??s immediately apparent that â??Natural Brown Prom Queenâ? is a very ambitious work from Sudan, spanning 18 tracks and nearly an hour of music - from the disco-influenced R&B of â??Home Makerâ? to the Afrocentric anthem â??Selfish Soulâ?, the hip-hop banger â??OMG Brittâ?, the wild ride of â??NBPQ (Topless)â? and the ballad â??Homesick (Gorgeous & Arrogant)â?. Fittingly for an album named for a homecoming event, â??Natural Brown Prom Queenâ? is all about home: both Sudanâ??s adopted hometown of L.A. and Cincinnati, where she was raised. Itâ??s an album of many challenges, interactions, fights, triumphs, movements and ruminations, but almost all of them trace back to the multiple ways that a person can find and re-find home. Itâ??s intimate in all senses of the word, with Sudan unafraid to be vulnerable, tender and open about her insecurities. But the record is also about finding pleasure, with family and friends - Sudan Archives invites you to join in and embrace shared joy! -

"Natural Brown Prom Queen (2LP)" is an ambitious double LP by Sudan Archives, released by Pias / Stones Throw. Across these four sides of vinyl, the artist blends experimental R&B, forward-thinking soul and adventurous electronic textures into a daring, deeply personal concept work about identity, beauty standards, relationships and self-determination. The album is characterized by intricate string arrangements, bold rhythms and inventive vocal production, moving fluidly from intimate, stripped-back moments to dense, club-ready soundscapes. Lyrically, it oscillates between sharp social observation and introspective confession, creating a cohesive narrative that rewards full-album listening. The 2LP format underlines the breadth of the project, offering room for extended song structures, interludes and stylistic shifts that showcase Sudan Archives' range as a songwriter, producer and performer.

As a physical object, this 2LP edition emphasizes sound quality and collectability: the expansive tracklist benefits from the wider groove spacing of two records, allowing the detailed arrangements and low-end to unfold with clarity. For listeners who value albums as complete artistic statements, "Natural Brown Prom Queen" is designed to be experienced from start to finish, each side of vinyl forming its own chapter in the overarching story.

Sudan Archives is the musical project of singer, songwriter, producer and violinist Brittney Parks, known for her unique fusion of R&B, electronic music and African-inspired string work. She first gained international attention with early EPs that stood out for their minimalist beats and unconventional violin playing, and her debut album further established her as one of the most original voices in contemporary alternative R&B. With "Natural Brown Prom Queen", she broadened her sonic palette and narrative scope, earning widespread critical acclaim, high placements in year-end lists from influential music publications and growing recognition on festival stages worldwide. Her work is frequently praised for its originality, emotional intensity and bold production choices.

The LP is manufactured and distributed by Pias / Stones Throw, a collaboration between two highly regarded independent forces in the music world. PIAS has built a reputation over decades as a key European indie powerhouse, supporting boundary-pushing artists and carefully curated catalogues. Stones Throw Records, based in Los Angeles, is known globally for its trailblazing role in alternative hip-hop, leftfield soul and experimental electronic music, having cultivated a roster of artists who prize creativity over convention. Together, they stand for artistic independence, audiophile-oriented vinyl releases and a strong commitment to distinctive, genre-defying music--values that are fully reflected in this 2LP edition of "Natural Brown Prom Queen".
