"1972" on CD by T. Rex, released by Edsel, captures a pivotal year in the band's glam-rock ascent. This edition presents the characteristic fusion of driving rock riffs, catchy choruses and Marc Bolan's unmistakable vocal style, framed by warm, guitar-led arrangements and glittering hooks. The CD focuses on the classic early-'70s T. Rex sound: concise songs with a strong groove, swaggering attitude and a mix of electric energy and melodic charm that made the band one of the defining acts of the glam era. The track selection (not detailed here) is typical of the period, offering a coherent snapshot of Bolan's songwriting at a time when rock, pop and glam aesthetics were merging into something both radio-friendly and artistically distinctive.
Edsel, the manufacturer and reissue label behind this CD, is known for carefully curated catalogue releases, often treating classic albums and key periods of an artist's career with attention to detail and respect for the original sound. With a strong focus on rock, pop and related genres, Edsel has built a reputation for giving seminal recordings a new life in high-quality editions aimed at collectors and new listeners alike. Their work frequently emphasizes well-remastered audio and thoughtfully assembled packages, making this release an appealing way to rediscover T. Rex's 1972 output.
T. Rex, led by singer, guitarist and songwriter Marc Bolan, was one of the most influential bands of the early 1970s glam-rock movement. Emerging from earlier, more acoustic-oriented beginnings, T. Rex developed a lean, electric sound that paired hard-hitting riffs with an irresistible sense of groove and style. The group achieved major commercial success and became a fixture in the UK charts, helping to shape the look and sound of glam rock and inspiring countless later acts across rock and alternative music. Their work from the early '70s, including the material represented on "1972", stands as a cornerstone of the genre and remains a reference point for fans and musicians to this day.
"1972" on CD thus serves both as an accessible introduction for newcomers and as a focused time capsule for long-time admirers, highlighting a key creative phase of T. Rex under the care of a label specialized in preserving and presenting classic recordings. | | | Cover: |
