Enregistré lors de deux concerts légendaires en Géorgie devant des milliers de fans enthousiastes, cet album met en valeur la fusion électrisante du blues et du rock sudiste ainsi que les longues improvisations instrumentales caractéristiques du groupe sur des titres comme « Statesboro Blues », « Whipping Post » ou encore « In Memory of Elizabeth Reed ». Fondé en 1969 par les frères Duane et Gregg Allman avec Dickey Betts, Berry Oakley et les batteurs Butch Trucks et Jaimoe (Jai Johanny Johanson), le groupe s'est imposé grâce à ses prestations scéniques mémorables et ses albums cultes tels que « At Fillmore East ». L'Allman Brothers Band fait aujourd'hui partie intégrante du panthéon musical américain avec une intronisation au Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame et plusieurs disques multi-platine à son actif.
