GRATEFUL DEAD / ANTHEM OF SUN (1971 REMIX) vinyl LP pressing. 1971 remix of the original album. Anthem of the Sun is the second album by The Grateful Dead, released in 1968 on Warner Bros/Seven Arts. It is the first album to feature second drummer Mickey Hart. The band was also joined by Tom Constanten, who contributed avant-garde instrumental and studio techniques influenced by composers John Cage and Karlheinz Stockhausen. The album was assembled through a collage-like editing approach helmed by members Jerry Garcia and Phil Lesh (along with soundman Dan Healy), in which disparate studio and live performance tapes were spliced together to create new hybrid recordings. The band also supplemented their performances with instruments such as prepared piano, kazoo, harpsichord, timpani, trumpet, and güiro. The result is an experimental amalgam that is neither a true studio album nor a live album.

"Anthem Of The Sun (1971 Remix)" on LP is a landmark release from the Grateful Dead, capturing the band's fearless experimental phase in a unique studio/live hybrid soundscape. This edition presents the 1971 remix, whose clearer separation and more defined textures bring new focus to the swirling guitars, organ lines and multi-layered percussion while preserving the psychedelic intensity of the original concept. Sprawling suites, improvisational passages and sudden dynamic shifts create the feeling of being transported directly into the band's late-60s live universe, yet with the detail and presence of a carefully sculpted studio production. Pressed on classic vinyl, this LP invites deep, focused listening--from the mysterious opening movements to the explosive jams that fuse rock, psychedelia and avant-garde elements into one continuous trip.
Rhino, the manufacturer of this edition, is renowned for its archival care and audiophile-minded reissues, with a strong reputation for respecting original masters, artwork and packaging. Collectors value Rhino releases for their attention to historical context and sonic quality, making this pressing a reliable way to experience this adventurous chapter in the Grateful Dead's catalog.
The Grateful Dead themselves stand among the most influential American rock bands, pioneers of the jam-band ethos and a central force in the San Francisco counterculture. Known for their improvisational concerts and loyal community of "Deadheads," they built a legacy through constant touring and a body of work that ranges from psychedelic explorations to rootsy Americana. Albums like "Workingman's Dead" and "American Beauty" have become classics, while the band's sprawling live archive continues to shape how rock fans think about performance, improvisation and the relationship between artist and audience. "Anthem Of The Sun (1971 Remix)" highlights the group at a moment of wild innovation, making this LP essential for anyone interested in the history of psychedelic rock and the evolution of the Grateful Dead's sound.

Great remix for a Great album... No mind-bending jams, but some beautiful, sweet Jerry ballads. Highly recommended for any fan of this music...
