Description:Focus by Stan Getz, released 23 November 2018, includes the following tracks: "Pan", "Night Rider", "A Summer Afternoon" and more. This version of Focus comes as a 1xCD. -
Out of print in the U.S. Composed by Eddie Sauter, the truly original concept for Focus was that Sauter would provide Stan Getz with seven compositions that featured no lead melodies, only spaces for Stan to fill as he saw fit. It was a novel approach, one which brought out the best in saxophonist Stan, his producer Creed Taylor and composer and arranger Eddie Sauter. The albums orchestral parts were recorded at the Webster Hall in New York in July 1961, with Stan recording his lead solos a couple of months later.
Standard jewel case with clear tray. Recorded at Webster Hall, New York City, July and September / October, 1961.
"Focus" is a seminal studio album by the legendary tenor saxophonist Stan Getz, here presented in CD format by Hallmark. Unlike his more famous bossa nova recordings, "Focus" showcases Getz in an adventurous, orchestral jazz setting, built around string arrangements that give the music an almost cinematic, chamber-jazz character. The album highlights his warm, lyrical tone and his ability to navigate complex harmonic landscapes with effortless elegance. This CD edition offers an accessible way to discover or rediscover one of the more introspective and artistically ambitious chapters of his discography, ideal for late-night listening or focused, attentive enjoyment. The carefully curated production emphasizes clarity and balance, so that Getz's saxophone remains at the emotional center while the arrangements create a rich, enveloping backdrop.

Stan Getz (1927-1991) is widely regarded as one of the most important tenor saxophonists in jazz history. Known as "The Sound" for his uniquely velvety, singing tone, he achieved worldwide fame in the early 1960s with his pioneering bossa nova recordings. His collaborations around that time yielded major successes and helped make Brazilian music a global phenomenon. Beyond his chart-topping achievements, Getz was highly respected for his expressive improvisations, his lyrical phrasing, and his stylistic versatility, moving with ease from cool jazz to more modern, exploratory projects such as "Focus." This album stands as a testament to his artistic curiosity and his ability to reinvent himself while remaining unmistakably recognizable.

The CD is released by Hallmark, a label known for making classic recordings available at an attractive price and in solid, no-frills presentations. Hallmark has specialized in reissues and compilations that bring important musical milestones back into circulation, often focusing on accessibility and broad availability. With this edition of "Focus," Hallmark offers both newcomers and seasoned jazz collectors the opportunity to add an essential Stan Getz album to their shelves in a straightforward, reliable format, concentrating on the music itself rather than on lavish packaging.
