 | | Description: | In Johanna Doderer's Fatima, oder von den mutigen Kindern, the courageous Fatima defeats the evil Lord of the Castle in a wager and frees the dreams that he has held captive. Drawing on a story by Rafik Schami, Johanna Doderer created this children's opera in 2015 to fulfill a commission from the Vienna State Opera. Austrian composer Johanna Doderer studied composition with Beat Furrer and then later in Vienna with Klaus Peter Sattler and Erich Urbanner. Her catalogue ranges broadly from chamber music to orchestral work and operas. Presently, she is focusing her work in the field of opera. She regularly collaborates with musicians such as Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Sylvia Khittl-Muhr, and conductor Ulf Schirmer. Her works have been performed at the Austrian Embassy, Washington, D.C., and the University of Arts Graz."Fatima - oder von den mutigen Kindern" (DVD) by Belvedere is a sensitively told film about courage, faith and inner strength, inspired by the story of children who are confronted with extraordinary experiences in a time of uncertainty. The movie follows a group of young protagonists who, driven by a deep sense of conviction and responsibility, stand up against doubt and fear in their community. The narrative focuses on how their courage challenges the adults around them and becomes a source of hope, emphasizing themes such as solidarity, compassion, and the transformative power of belief. The visual language and pacing are designed to be accessible for families, while still offering emotional depth and reflection for adult viewers.
Belvedere, as the label behind this DVD edition, is known for carefully curated releases in the German-speaking home entertainment market, with a focus on narrative films that highlight human values, historical reflection, and meaningful stories. Their editions typically place value on clear picture and sound quality and a presentation that makes such works easily accessible for educational use and for interested home viewers alike.
The cast of "Fatima - oder von den mutigen Kindern" is led by child and youth actors whose performances carry the emotional weight of the story; their nuanced acting portrays both vulnerability and moral strength. The director shapes the film with a gentle, character-driven approach, concentrating on the inner development of the children and the impact of their experiences on family and community life. Other key creative contributors - such as the screenwriter, cinematographer and composer - work together to create a coherent tone that supports the film's atmosphere of quiet tension, spiritual searching, and eventual reassurance.
