 | | Description: | McCartney II is the third solo album by English musician Paul McCartney, released on 16 May 1980. It was recorded by McCartney at his home studio in the summer of 1979, shortly before the dissolution of his band Wings in 1981. Like his first solo album, McCartney (1970), he performed all the instruments himself while his wife Linda contributed additional vocals. It yielded three singles: "Coming Up", "Waterfalls", and "Temporary Secretary".
The album was a significant departure for McCartney, as much of it relies heavily on synthesizers and studio experimentation, while its music style ranges from synth-pop and new wave to electronica. It was initially released to largely unfavourable reviews by critics, though retrospective reception has been more positive and the album has become a cult favourite. In 2011, an expanded edition of McCartney II was issued with over a dozen bonus tracks. In 2020, the album was succeeded by McCartney III - Paul McCartney - "McCartney II" McCartney II is the second completely solo studio album by Paul McCartney, and the first since the formation of Wings in 1971. It was released in 1980, a year before the band's dissolution and while their future lay in limbo. The album is a significant departure for McCartney, as much of it relies heavily on synthesizers and studio"McCartney II" on CD presents Paul McCartney at one of the most adventurous and experimental points of his solo career. Recorded largely at home and originally released in 1980 after the breakup of Wings, this album captures McCartney's curiosity for synthesizers, drum machines and studio experimentation, while still preserving his gift for unforgettable melodies. Tracks such as "Coming Up" and its energetic groove, the dreamy "Waterfalls" or the hypnotic, electronic "Temporary Secretary" illustrate how McCartney bridged classic songwriting with then-modern sounds. This CD edition offers a focused listening experience that showcases the album's contrast between playful avant-pop and intimate, understated ballads, making it a fascinating insight into McCartney's musical universe beyond The Beatles. Paul McCartney, born in Liverpool, gained worldwide fame as co-founder, bassist, singer and songwriter of The Beatles, one of the most influential bands in music history. After The Beatles, he continued his success with Wings and as a solo artist, achieving countless chart-topping singles and albums, Grammy Awards, and inductions into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as both a Beatle and solo artist. His catalog includes era-defining works such as "Band on the Run," "Ram," and "Flaming Pie," and his ability to reinvent himself while staying accessible has made him one of the most enduring figures in popular music. The CD format of "McCartney II" is ideal for collectors and music lovers who appreciate detailed sound and the tactile experience of owning a physical album. The production highlights the contrast between electronic textures and organic instruments, allowing listeners to discover the nuances of McCartney's home-studio experiments. The album is released under the Capitol label, one of the most renowned names in the music industry. Founded in the United States and now part of a major global music group, Capitol has a long tradition of working with iconic artists across genres, from classic pop and rock to contemporary music.
