Marias Hand anhält. Auch Friedrichs Gegenspieler, Ludwig
XI. von Frankreich, plant, seinen Sohn mit der jungen
Herzogin zu verehelichen. Aber Maria von Burgund hat ihren
eigenen Kopf und will zunächst gegen jedes Gesetz alleine
regieren. Maximilian weigert sich ebenso, Spielball
politischer Ambitionen zu werden und die Notlage einer
jungen Frau zum Vorteil seines verhassten Vaters zu
nutzen. Der Kampf um die Vorherrschaft in Europa hat
jedoch längst begonnen. So lernen die Herzogin und der
österreichische Erbprinz schnell, wie man überlebt und wie
man herrscht. Nur auf eines sind die beiden nicht
vorbereitet: auf die Liebe, die sie füreinander empfinden.
