“Apex III. Praise For The Burning Soul” is the 3rd studio album by the Bordeaux based power-trio MARS RED SKY. It was released through the French metal label Listenable Records in 2016 and featured 8 tracks clocking in at over 48 minutes. The songwriting and the arrangements are top-notch, and the music perfectly fits the category defined as Heavy Psychedelic Rock with a certain Progressive edge. The strongest point of the album is its dynamic progressions – the bridges between segments of varying tempo and mood are really great. And the performance of Julien Pras (vocals, guitar), Jimmy Kinast (bass, vocals), and Matgaz (drums) on their respective instruments is remarkable. “Apex III” and “Mindreader” probably stand out as the best compositions to me offering not only strong fuzzed out stoner-doom riffing, sedative tantric rhythms and trippy vocal harmonies, but also definite melodic patterns and catchy pop hooks. Highly recommended for lovers of Heavy-Psyche with dark-gothic and surrealistic overtones.
