P&C 2015 Matador Records
"Teens Of Style" is a compelling LP by Car Seat Headrest, released through the renowned independent network Matador / Beggars Group / Indigo. The album gathers newly re-recorded versions of key early songs from Will Toledo's extensive Bandcamp-era catalog, giving them a fuller, more dynamic sound without losing the raw intimacy and lo-fi charm that first attracted a dedicated following. Across the record, introspective lyrics about adolescence, anxiety, self-discovery and awkward relationships are wrapped in fuzzy guitars, driving rhythms and cleverly structured indie-rock anthems that slowly unfurl and build in intensity. The result is a cohesive introduction to Car Seat Headrest's world: emotionally direct, melodically rich and full of unexpected twists that reward repeated listening.
Musically, "Teens Of Style" moves between rough-edged, distortion-laden tracks and more bittersweet, melodic pieces that showcase Toledo's knack for memorable hooks and narrative songwriting. The production preserves a DIY aesthetic--lo-fi textures, intimate vocals, and a sense that these songs come straight from a bedroom studio--while adding enough clarity and punch to make the LP feel like a unified, well-sequenced album rather than a loose compilation. Lyrically dense and self-aware, the record speaks to listeners who grew up online, capturing the mix of irony, vulnerability and yearning that defines much of modern indie rock.
Car Seat Headrest is the project of American songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Will Toledo, who began releasing albums independently online at a prolific pace before signing with Matador. Building a strong cult following through his early self-released recordings, he later reached a much wider audience with acclaimed albums such as "Teens Of Denial" and the re-imagined "Twin Fantasy," which appeared on numerous year-end lists and cemented his reputation as one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary indie rock. Known for long, evolving song structures, sharp lyricism and intense live performances, Car Seat Headrest has become a fixture on international festival and club stages.
The LP is released by Matador in collaboration with the Beggars Group and distributed via Indigo, a constellation of labels and partners that has stood at the forefront of independent music for decades. Matador and the Beggars Group are known for fostering groundbreaking alternative and indie artists, giving them creative freedom while providing professional support and international reach. Together, these companies have built a reputation for high-quality pressings, thoughtful catalog curation and a long-term commitment to artist-driven music--qualities that also characterize this LP edition of "Teens Of Style."
