"Mtv Unplugged In New York" es una actuación legendaria grabada por Nirvana y editada en formato DVD bajo el sello discográfico Geffen Records. Registrado en noviembre de 1993 para la célebre serie 'MTV Unplugged', este concierto representa uno de los momentos más emblemáticos e íntimos del rock: versiones acústicas minimalistas de clásicos como 'About a Girl' o 'Come As You Are', junto con conmovedidas interpretaciones como la versión del tema 'The Man Who Sold the World' original de David Bowie forman parte del repertorio ' todo ello envuelto por una atmósfera cruda y emotiva que ha convertido esta sesión en referencia obligatoria dentro del género.
Geffen Records fue fundado por el influyente empresario estadounidense David Geffen en 1980 y ha sido hogar artístico para grandes figuras internacionales como Guns N' Roses, Aerosmith o Elton John gracias al apoyo constante hacia propuestas innovadoras y rompedoras dentro del panorama musical global.
Nirvana estaba compuesto principalmente por Kurt Cobain (voz/guitarra), Krist Novoselic (bajo) y Dave Grohl (batería). Considerado portavoz generacional gracias a sus letras profundas e intensas emociones transmitidas sobre el escenario antes su trágica muerte prematura; además participó junto con Dave Grohl -quien luego formaría los exitosísimos Foo Fighters- también colaborando posteriormente con artistas destacados como Paul McCartney o Queens Of The Stone Age.
