Cover design credited to 'A. Backausen' on the outer cover and 'A. Backhausen' on the inner cover"Out Of Reach" on CD presents a distinctive chapter in the legacy of German experimental rock pioneers Can, reissued by the renowned label Mute. Originally recorded in the late 1970s, this album captures the band in a transitional phase, blending their trademark hypnotic grooves and improvisational freedom with more direct, song-oriented structures. The result is a raw, atmospheric listening experience that moves between driving, rhythm-focused pieces and more spacious, exploratory passages. On this CD edition, the sound highlights the interplay between drums, bass, guitar, and keyboards, emphasizing the band's ability to build tension and texture over extended tracks. "Out Of Reach" is particularly appealing for listeners who appreciate the more off-kilter, obscure corners of Can's catalog and want to delve deeper than the classic albums that defined their name. It is a work that rewards attentive listening, revealing subtle details in rhythm and arrangement with each repeat play.
Can are considered one of the most influential bands in experimental rock and so-called "Krautrock", known for merging rock, avant-garde, and early electronic elements into long, trance-like compositions. Formed in Germany at the end of the 1960s, they developed a sound that inspired generations of post-punk, alternative, electronic, and indie artists. Their major achievements include a series of highly regarded albums across the 1970s that have become touchstones for adventurous music fans, as well as a lasting reputation for fearless studio experimentation and improvisation. Can's legacy lives on in the continued discovery of their work by new audiences, and "Out Of Reach" offers a fascinating glimpse into their evolving creative process.
The CD is released by Mute, a label known for its deep commitment to innovative, boundary-pushing music. Since its founding, Mute has built a catalog that spans electronic, experimental, rock, and avant-pop, working with numerous influential artists and consistently supporting creative freedom over commercial formulas. The label has earned respect for carefully curated reissues and archival projects, bringing important recordings back into circulation in high-quality editions. With this release of "Out Of Reach" on CD, Mute continues its tradition of preserving and celebrating significant, forward-thinking music, making it accessible to both longtime fans and new listeners who are just beginning to explore Can's work. | | | Manufacturer No.: |
