This version of Soulville comes as a 1xCD. - Initially trained as a violinist and pianist (the latter to such an extent he would actually record several albums), Ben Webster made his name as a tenor saxophonist, widely regarded as one of the most influential jazz proponents of the instrument. Whilst perhaps best known for his spell with Duke Ellington, Ben would later branch out and record a series of highly impressive albums under his own name, commencing with 1953's aptly titled King of the Tenors'. Soulville was originally released on Verve in 1957 and unites Ben with the Oscar Peterson Trio on a nine track journey, of which five of the tracks are ballads. And whilst the backing ensemble is undoubtedly first class, it is Ben's playing that holds the ear. Hallmark."Soulville" is a classic jazz album by the legendary tenor saxophonist Ben Webster, presented here in CD format by Hallmark. Originally recorded in 1957, "Soulville" stands as one of Webster's most celebrated works, showcasing his rich tone and emotive playing style. The album features an outstanding lineup including Oscar Peterson on piano and Ray Brown on bass, delivering soulful interpretations of both standards and original compositions. Ben Webster was a pivotal figure in jazz history, renowned for his work with Duke Ellington's orchestra and collaborations with other greats like Billie Holiday and Coleman Hawkins.
