.. Instrumental Guitar Music Of The Sixties |
 | | Description: | UK collection. The recordings made by producer Joe Meek in the late '50s and early '60s changed the face of pop music and revolutionized the recording processes behind it. Claiming to "Paint pictures in sound," Meek enjoyed a string of hits but it was 'Telstar, his own composition, performed by the Tornados for which he will best be remembered. Hit-maker to Britain's first generation of homegrown pop stars, Meek was an outsider who singlehandedly challenged the supremacy of the record industry establishment. The Shadows' monumental hit 'Apache', had ushered in the golden era of British instrumental guitar pop. They, along with John Barry, Bert Weedon and, of course, Joe Meek's 'Tornados' scored hits with consistency, while others merely flirted with chart success. The four other artists on the edition's nine Meek productions, the Packabeats, the Moontrekkers, Flee-Rekkers and the Outlaws all belong in this category; each however a masterpiece in the sound technology created by Meek at his Holloway Road studio. El.12 page booklet."British Instrumental Guitar Music From.." on CD is a lovingly curated collection that celebrates the golden era of British guitar-driven instrumental music. Bringing together a wide range of tracks from different artists, this compilation showcases the many shades of the British guitar sound: from twangy, echo-laden surf influences to sharp, beat-infused rock 'n' roll and moody, atmospheric pieces. Rather than focusing on one band, the CD offers a stylistic journey through a period when the electric guitar was at the center of creativity, capturing both dance-floor energy and cinematic flair. Listeners can expect crisp lead guitars, tight rhythm sections, and melodies that stay in the ear long after the music has stopped. The sequencing is crafted to flow naturally, making the disc ideal both for focused listening and as a stylish backdrop for evenings, driving, or gatherings with friends. The producer and label of this release, Cherry Red, is a long-established independent company known for its deep catalog work and lovingly compiled reissues. Over the years, Cherry Red has built a strong reputation among collectors and music lovers for unearthing rarities, preserving important musical eras, and packaging them with care. Their compilations often feature detailed liner notes, thoughtful track selections, and a clear respect for musical history. With "British Instrumental Guitar Music From..", Cherry Red once again underlines its expertise in thematic, historically aware collections that appeal both to longtime fans and to curious newcomers. | | | No. of tracks: |
