III The Rommel chronicles

In 2013, a group of famous military historians from the Netherlands released their third collective monograph. If the first 2 works of the Dutch were devoted to the Eastern Front and the Pacific theater of the Second World War, then the object of the research on “III - The Rommel Chronicles” was life and military career, without exaggeration, one of the most talented commanders of the Third Reich - “Desert Fox”, field marshal Erwin Rommel. Musically, the third album Hail Of Bullets is the same straightforward old-school death with a minimal number of guitar solos. The men did not engage in perversions and reinvent the wheel. Still, we are dealing with a kind of Dutch national team for death. Judge for yourself, the names of the bands in which the musicians of Hail Of Bullets were engaged speak for themselves: Pestilence, Asphyx, Gorefest, Houwitser, Thanatos. Here we have experienced professionals and experts in composing and performing heavy music. “III - The Rommel Chronicles” differs from its predecessors for the better in the first place by the quality of the musical material itself, as well as by a denser and heavier guitar sound, the closest analogy is the last two Asphyx albums. Moreover, in both teams the same person is at the microphone stand and tears down the throat - Martin van Drunen, a well-known personality and, I’m not afraid of the word, a cult one. In general, you can’t say a lot about such albums as “III - The Rommel Chronicles” due to the fact that everything about this kind of music has been said and written long ago. Therefore, I will be brief: in their last work, the Dutch give the listener 45 minutes of enjoyment by a dense archaic child of excellent quality.
