Valance erschoss ein moderner Western, der alle anderen in
den Schatten stellt. Der Name John Ford steht für das
Genre Western und ist Garant für eine erstklassige
Besetzung. James Stewart spielt den charmanten, etwas
unbeholfenen Großstadtanwalt, der das idyllische Städtchen
Shinbone von seinem größten Schurken Liberty Valance
befreien soll. Der Titelheld wird von dem größten Star
gespielt, der jemals mit einem sechsschüssigen Revolver
feuerte: John Wayne. Die beiden Gegenspieler, der
aufrichtige Stewart und der raue Rancher Wayne,
konkurrieren um die Liebe zur selben Frau. Am Ende rechnet
der eine zwar mit dem Schurken ab, der andere jedoch
bekommt das Mädchen.
