 | | Description: | Lax by Landesvatter, released 24 February 2006.
This version of Lax comes as a 1xCD. - Second full-length release from Berlin-based electronic artist Landesvatter. Landesvatter's pleasingly soft, clicky and minimalist tracks are so thickly woven that you have to listen closely, even as it draws you closer and closer to the dance floor. Born in lower Franconia, he came in touch with techno for the first time in 1991 and has lived in Berlin since 1995. As a producer, his electronic music spans minimal techno, abstract jazzy clicks and cuts, to hip hop-influenced tracks. Lax is a thrilling release: The tracks meander surprisingly, never taken for granted and individually speaking for themselves. The samples are like tiny quotes which flow with the silver of jazz, pop guitar riffs and various other flotsam of music history. The beats have become more melancholy and the music more heavy duty. Normoton. 2006."Lax" is a CD release by Landesvatter on the independent label Normoton, presenting a carefully crafted sonic journey that unfolds with patience and depth. The album focuses on atmospheric, detailed sound design and a subtle dramaturgy that rewards attentive listening: tracks evolve slowly, layer by layer, combining melodic understatement with finely tuned textures and rhythmic nuances. Rather than relying on obvious hooks, "Lax" creates an immersive listening space where small changes have a powerful emotional impact. This makes the CD equally suitable for concentrated headphone sessions and as an evocative soundtrack for late-night hours. The production is clear and warm, allowing every sound element enough room to breathe and giving the entire work a cohesive, organic character.
Landesvatter stands out as an artist with a strong sense for mood, space and musical storytelling. His work is characterized by a restrained yet expressive aesthetic, where each sound is placed with intent and no element feels arbitrary. On "Lax", he refines this signature approach into a coherent album statement that feels both intimate and expansive. The music suggests influences from ambient, minimal and electronic sound art without locking itself into a single genre, instead building a personal, distinctive sonic language. For listeners who appreciate detailed production, subtle emotional arcs and music that reveals new aspects with each repeated listen, "Lax" offers a rich and enduring experience.
Normoton, as the label behind this CD, is known for its dedication to sophisticated, often genre-crossing music with a clear artistic vision. Instead of chasing short-lived trends, Normoton focuses on releasing works that are thoughtfully conceived and carefully produced, giving their artists room to develop a recognizable identity. The label's catalogue typically reflects a preference for nuanced sound aesthetics, long-term artistic development and albums that function as complete works rather than just collections of tracks. With "Lax" by Landesvatter, Normoton underlines its role as a platform for music that values depth, consistency and an unmistakable sonic fingerprint. | | | No. of tracks: |
