 | | Description: | In New Orleans by Willy Deville, released 26 March 2012, includes the following tracks: "Key To My Heart", "Every Dog Has Its Day", "Teasin' You", "Who Shot The La-La" and more.
This version of In New Orleans comes as a 1xCD. - "IN NEW ORLEANS" CONTAINS ALL THE TRACKS FROMUK collection from the late, great singer/songwriter. Willy DeVille was a colorful and charismatic character whose career saw incredible highs and lows. This CD is the result of a low period of his life that eventually resulted in the recording of some unforgettable music and the release of two of his most in-demand albums. In 1988 Willy's stock had fallen so low in the States that he couldn't get a record deal. He retired to New Orleans to regroup and in 1990 recorded the "Victory Mixture" album with Allen Toussaint, Dr John, Eddie Bo and the Meters. This was issued in Europe on the independent Sky Ranch label and sold a very creditable 200,000 copies. In 1993 Willy toured with his band and Dr John, Johnny Adams and the Wild Magnolias as part of the New Orleans Revue. An album, "Big Easy Fantasy" was issued, containing several live New Orleans-themed songs and some tracks from "Victory Mixture" that had been remixed with added vocals or instrumentation."In New Orleans" is a CD that captures Willy DeVille's lifelong fascination with the rich musical heritage of the Crescent City. Blending roots rock, rhythm & blues, soul and a touch of Cajun and Creole flavor, this collection showcases DeVille's smoky voice, storytelling flair and his instinct for timeless melodies. The songs evoke dimly lit bars, French Quarter nights and the bittersweet romance that runs through New Orleans culture, making this disc an atmospheric listening experience from start to finish. Thoughtfully compiled and remastered, the album offers a coherent journey through DeVille's New Orleans-infused repertoire and highlights his unique ability to bridge Americana, blues and classic pop traditions.
As the driving force behind Mink DeVille and later as a solo artist, Willy DeVille became a cult figure of American roots music. Emerging from the New York scene of the late 1970s, he stood out with a style that fused rock, Latin influences, soul and classic R&B. Over the years he built a loyal international following, praised for his intense stage presence, emotionally charged vocals and songs that were covered and celebrated by many peers. His work has influenced generations of roots and Americana artists who admire his ability to bring street poetry and old-school romance into contemporary songwriting.
The CD format of "In New Orleans" presents these recordings in clear, detailed sound while preserving the organic warmth that characterizes DeVille's music. It is aimed at listeners who appreciate authentic, rootsy arrangements and narrative depth, whether they are long-time fans or new to his work. With its carefully chosen track list and cohesive mood, this disc is equally suitable for focused listening on high-quality systems and for creating an intimate, late-night atmosphere.
