 | | Description: | First released in 1986, Detroit Diesel motors through blues romps and funky jams, as Alvin has space to stretch out and groove alongside guests Jon Lord, Joe Brown and George Harrison. Tim Hinkley (keyboards), Steve Gould (guitar), the late Boz Burrell (bass) and Bryson Graham (drums) cook up a smokin' rhythm section. - Digitally remastered edition of this 1986 album from the guitarist famed for his high speed dexterity. Detroit Diesel portrays Alvin Lee in more mature and relaxed mood. This collection of 10 tracks includes cuts that range from Blues romps to funky jams. His astonishing technique is still well displayed, but the material gives him a chance to stretch out and groove in a style closer to the Rolling Stones than Ten Years After. An all-star collection of old mates - such as Jon Lord, Joe Brown and George Harrison - make guest appearances, but the heavy duty backing work is carried out by Tim Hinkley (keyboards), Steve Gould (guitar), the late Boz Burrell (bass) and Bryson Graham (drums), who cook up a smokin' rhythm section. Repertoire."Detroit Diesel" on CD presents Alvin Lee in electrifying form, capturing the raw energy, guitar virtuosity, and blues-rock intensity that made him a cult figure of the classic rock era. Across the album, Lee fuses driving rock riffs with gritty blues phrasing, mixing high-octane up-tempo tracks with more laid-back, groove-oriented numbers. His expressive solos, tight rhythm work, and soulful, slightly rough-edged vocals create a coherent, powerful sound that will appeal to long-time fans as well as listeners discovering him for the first time. The production emphasizes an organic, guitar-driven feel: warm tones, punchy drums, and a live-in-the-studio atmosphere that highlights the interplay between Lee and his band. Lyrically, the songs move through classic rock themes - life on the road, emotional struggles, and gritty urban imagery - all delivered with the directness and authenticity associated with traditional blues-rock. Alvin Lee, best known as the frontman and lead guitarist of Ten Years After, became internationally famous through his blazing performance at Woodstock, where his speed and intensity on the guitar set a new benchmark for rock soloing. With Ten Years After he released numerous influential albums and became a fixture on the late-1960s and early-1970s rock scene, known for combining blues roots with a hard-edged, progressive rock sound. In his solo career, Lee further refined his style, collaborating with a range of musicians from rock, blues, and related genres, and building a reputation as one of the defining guitarists of his generation. "Detroit Diesel" reflects this mature phase: confident, focused, and steeped in the traditions that shaped his playing. The CD is released by Repertoire Entertainment GmbH, a label noted for its dedication to classic rock, progressive rock, and high-quality catalogue releases. Repertoire has earned a strong reputation among collectors and audiophiles for carefully curated reissues, attention to sound quality, and detailed packaging that respects the legacy of the original recordings.
